England men’s head coach Steve Borthwick has confirmed his squad for Saturday’s Guinness Six Nations opener against Scotland.
England will face Scotland in the historic Calcutta Cup at Twickenham Stadium on Saturday February 4 (4:45pm KO).
Henry Slade withdrew from the squad with a hip injury suffered in Exeter Chief’s game against Castres ahead of training camp last week and has not recovered enough to be available for selection.
Jamie George has been named to the team and will continue to work under his graduated return to play protocols. Anthony Watson was also called up following an injury.
The team met today [Sunday 29 January] at the Honda England Rugby Performance Center at Pennyhill Park, Bagshot to prepare for Saturday’s game.
Borthwick said:
“It’s a very important week for us as we prepare for our first game against Scotland.
“We know Scotland are a great team with a great coaching staff led by Gregor Townsend. They’re a stable side that have been together for a long time and have dominated this game for the past few seasons.
“They will come to Twickenham full of confidence.
“We know we have a lot of work to do. The team trained very hard last week and are ready to go again this week. We can’t wait to race again at Twickenham in front of our amazing supporters.
Slade and Courtney Lawes will also be at camp this week to continue their rehab work.
