Shreyas Iyer ruled out of ODI series against New Zealand, Rajat Patidar named replacement | Cricket News

Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand due to a back injury, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Tuesday. Iyer, who has failed to convert several good starts in the recent past, will head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) where he will undergo further evaluation. The extent of the injury has not been disclosed by the BCCI and testing by the NCA will reveal how long he will be out of action. Rajat Patidar was named as her replacement for the series.

“Indian team batsman Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI 3-match series against New Zealand due to a back injury. He will travel to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for an assessment and The All India Senior Selection Committee has appointed Rajat Patidar to replace Shreyas Iyer,” BCCI said in the official statement.

During the ODI series against Sri Lanka, Iyer scored 28, 28 and 38 in all three outings but failed to take his innings to the next level. On the other hand, Patidar has been quite impressive on the national circuit and the Madhya Pradesh cricketer has been part of the squad for the past series.

India will play the first ODI against New Zealand in Hyderabad on January 18, 2023.
