Pakistani cricket have undergone a reshuffle over the past few days, following their whitewashed 0-3 Test run at the hands of England at home. Ramiz Raja was sacked as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), with Najam Sethi taking the post on an interim basis. Saturday, the former captain Shahid Afridi was named interim head coach of the senior men’s team. With Pakistan set to face New Zealand in a two-game Test series, captain and star hitter Babar Azam shared his views on the two big leadership changes.
On the eve of the Boxing-Day Test, which will take place at the National Stadium in Karachi, Babar admitted that regardless of what happens off the field, the players’ goal remains to improve their performance.
“In the last 3-4 days a lot has changed. I think as a professional you come across such situations. But our job is to give our efforts on the pitch and play for the team. to the best of our abilities. These things are happening off the pitch and we are focusing on the test series, on how to have a good start and perform well in all games. In the last series, we don’t we weren’t able to perform well because they made small mistakes, but we’ll look to rectify those mistakes.” Babar told a press conference in Karachi.
Hours after being named interim head coach by the Pakistan Cricket Board, Shahid Afridi added three bowlers to New Zealand’s series squad on Saturday.
The PCB said that Afridi, after talking to captain Babar Azam, added point guards Mir Hamza and Shahnawaz Dahani and off spinner Sajid Khan to the team
The interim selection committee led by Afridi also includes former all-rounders Abdul Razzaq and Rao Ifthikar Anjum, while Haroon Rasheed is the organizer.
For now, the appointment is only for the next home series against New Zealand, starting with the first Test in Karachi from December 26.
