Ranked Winner Rocky’s Treasure may have made his last start a win after striking for the first time in nearly two years for Kim Bailey.
The 11-year-old set a course record in the Grade 2 December Novice Pursuit in 2018 and returned to the site of his greatest triumph to win the Veteran Handicap Hunt under Kai Lenihan.
Bailey said: “I’m really happy for the horse. It’s now his fourth time winning at Doncaster and it was Kai’s first time on fences for us and he gave him a fantastic run.
“He won a lot as a rookie, but he’s definitely a character. He didn’t go over a hurdle at any of these fences, but he always ran well here, I don’t know why.
“Chances are it’s the horse’s swansong – he’ll soon be 12 and it would be nice to retire him on a winning note. He’s been a good servant to us, a complete star, and I will discuss with the owners. It would be nice to see him embark on a new career after today.”
O’Brien on top
Roommates Paul O’Brien and Brendan Powell had to put their friendship aside in a duel for the 2m½f handicap pursuit in which the pair pulled back 46 lengths from their nearest rival.
O’Brien, aboard the Pam Sly formed quotesgot the better of Elixir De Nutz by a neck and the jockey quickly followed up successfully on Rathmacnee in the handicap hurdle 2m3½f.
