Today on Sky Sports Racing: Lucinda Russell’s team sends chase rookie to Newcastle

Newcastle’s Gosforth Park hosts some decent jumps on Thursday with a chase debutant from Lucinda Russell against the in-form hidden commander, live on Sky Sports Racing.

2.48 Newcastle – Hidden Commander leads a sextet

Only six riders line up in the Follow @attheraces on Twitter Handicap Chase (2:48) but it seems difficult to solve, with probably a favorite Hidden Commander come here after winning last week by a head at the track.

He faces better rivals here though and gained 7lbs for the win, with Lucinda Russell’s Rowdy Rustler making his hunting debut with a handsome mark of 109.

The seven-year-old has since undergone wind surgery, while Geryville arrives here in decent form for Micky Hammond’s side.

2.13 Newcastle – 14 hot handicap hurdlers

In the previous round, 14 went to the post for the Off The Fence On youtube.com/attheraces Handicap Hurdle (2:13) including a pair of last time winners.

Locking up Luke won last time for the Jackie Stephen team in Kelso, though he’s kind of an expert on that venue.

Lucky Lover Boy has won four of his last six and finished second to the other pair for the Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero team – he’s likely the favorite and won’t be far off if he maintains this level of form.

1.03 Newcastle – England’s Fenland Tiger chase treble

The Download the At The Races Handicap Hurdle app (1:03) is another very competitive round with 15 riders fielding although they are all looking to get Sam England Fenland Tigers to beat.

The six-year-old has won his last two at Hexham and Carlisle, although it looks like the toughest race he has faced in some time, with last time out winner Bouncing Bobby for the side Martin Todhunter.

Peter Kavanagh will claim a practical 5lb weight on his back, while Great Raffles make a seasonal reappearance for Micky Hammond after winning twice at the end of last campaign.
