One of the finest cricketers to ever grace the sport, Dev Kapil, is an Indian cricketing legend. As the sport has become faster, since the arrival of T20 cricket, the dynamics of the game have changed. It’s not just the three formats of international cricket players have to contend with these days, but also franchise cricket. Even T20 leagues like the Indian Premier League (IPL) demand a lot from the players which sometimes also leads to high pressure situations. Kapil Dev, however, does not think cricketers should play the sport if they feel ‘under pressure’.
As a guest of the “Champions of Aakash 2022” program, organized by an educational institute, Aakash BYJU’s, Kapil Dev explained how times have changed in modernity compared to when he practiced the sport.
“I had a passion to play. That was the difference. I would change the subject slightly. I hear a lot on TV these days. People say ‘there’s pressure, we’re playing the IPL , there’s a lot of pressure’. I’m only saying one, ‘Don’t play. What’s that pressure? If you’re passionate, there shouldn’t be any pressure’, he says in the program.
“These ‘American words’ came whether it was pressure or depression. I don’t understand that. I’m a farmer. That’s where I come from. We played for fun and where there is pleasure, there can be no pressure, “he says further.

Kapil Dev’s comments drew various reactions from the social media world. Some believe that the generation gap between when Kapil was playing and the present is the reason for this opinion.
There are also those who think Kapil is correct in suggesting that pleasure and pressure cannot co-exist.

It should be noted that professional sportsmen, and not just in cricket, these days also have a mental conditioning trainer. It’s not just their physical attributes that they have to work on to cope with the demands of the game, but also their mental attributes.
Kapil’s comments naturally sparked a great debate among the masses.
