Since his Indian Premier League debut in 2019, Arshdeep Singh’s shares have risen. The pacer had a great 2022 IPL season and made his international debut on the England tour. He then pocketed seven wickets on the West Indies tour. He played for India at the Asian Cup last month but didn’t have the best of matches. However, the young pacer made a strong comeback in the first T20I against South Africa earlier this week.
Arshdeep, who rested for the T20I series against Australia, struck three times in his first inning.
The Proteas hitters looked clueless against Arshdeep, who finished the game with three-for-32 numbers on a swinging pitch in Thiruvananthapuram.
Speaking on the performance of Arshdeep, former Pakistani wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal drew comparisons to an Indian left arm rhythm icon.
“Arshdeep Singh is an amazing bowler. I think India have found their new Zaher Khan“Akmal said in a video uploaded to his YouTube channel.
“Arshdeep has both, rhythm and swing, and he has that bowling smarts. He’s mentally strong and knows his abilities, and uses them depending on the conditions,” he explained.
Akmal also added that despite being young, Arshdeep possesses intelligence and bowling maturity which is a good sign for the Indian team.

“He first got Rilee Rossouw caught late, then castling De Kock. But the best wicket was that of David Miller because he kept driving the ball away from him before throwing a sharp inswinger to get him out. He’s brilliant and he’s mature, he’s got pace and he’s still young. It’s a good sign for Team India as they needed a left arm after Zaheer Khan.”
Notably, Arshdeep was selected in the 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup in Australia.
