Four arrested as fan clashes in pub leave people ‘unconscious’ and ‘covered in blood’

Four arrests have been made after a group of around 100 masked German supporters attacked England supporters at a pub near Wembley ahead of Monday’s game.

Preparations for the Nations League match were overshadowed by the incident outside the Green Man pub, an establishment frequented by fans ahead of Three Lions games.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the group carrying out the attack wore English hats and scarves, but it is believed they were in fact German.

The Met added that “a number of people” suffered head and facial injuries and know of three people who suffered serious leg, wrist and thumb injuries.

Four arrests have been confirmed in connection with the disorder.

A statement read: ‘At 5.50pm on Monday September 26, a group of around 100 men, many wearing masks, approached a pub on Dagmar Avenue in Wembley from a driveway leading to the car park.

“The group entered the beer garden and began assaulting customers, most of whom were in the area to watch the England v Germany game.

“Punches and projectiles, including traffic cones were thrown. Officers responded and the group fled. The mess lasted about two minutes.

“Several people were injured in the head and face. We are also aware of three people seriously injured in the leg, wrist and thumb. None of the injured appear to be in life-threatening condition.

“There have been four arrests in connection with the disorder so far.”

Meanwhile, an eyewitness – Luke Robinson – I said: “There is an entrance at the back of the Green Man and about 50 of them arrived wearing masks and English scarves.

“They burst in, hitting everyone. It lasted a good five minutes before the police arrived.

“A lot of people were in bad shape. People were on the ground, unconscious, covered in blood. Even the kids – a boy under 13 had a bloody nose.

“A guy was with paramedics and still unconscious when we left.

He added: “This is the main pub in England. I’ve never seen it like this before and I come to every home game. We were there when England played Germany at the Euros and when there was all the trouble around the final, but it’s the first time I’ve seen it like this.

The match itself ended 3-3, with England coming back from 2-0 up to score a point against Germany.

The Three Lions lost 2-0 after Harry Maguire gave in a penalty which Ilkay Gundogan converted and then the much-maligned defender gave away the ball in preparation for a fine strike from Kai Havertz.

But goals from Luke Shaw, Mason Mount and a penalty from Kane gave the hosts a 3-2 lead before goalkeeper error Nick Pope gave Havertz a second to prevent England winning on their last game before the World Cup.
