Spring for Cox Plate Fantasy Western Empire

The spring carnival of the coveted Group 1 winner Western Empire is over.

He was sent home to Western Australia after a lackluster run in the Makybe Diva Stakes.

The five-year-old headed to Victoria with high hopes but disappointed in his two runs in the Memsie and Makybe Diva stakes for coach Danny O’Brien.

At one point, the Railway Stakes winner was close to the Cox Plate favorite in all-in betting.

Owner Bob Peters announced today that Western Empire, Regal Power and Stageman will all return home after disappointing campaigns.

Western Empire ends without a place in the Memsie Stakes.

Western Empire finished fifth in the Memsie beaten by 3.6 lengths with a chance of $4.80 but fell back on Saturday, placing fifth again but was beaten by more than six lengths with a chance of $8.50.

Peters’ star galloper Showmanship will race in Saturday’s Group 1 Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield where he is on the third betting line at $8.
