England head coach Shaun Wane wants a shock inclusion for this year’s World Cup.
At home, England will look to break the monopoly held by Australia and New Zealand in recent competitions to lift the Paul Barrière Trophy with former Wigan Warriors boss Wane at the helm.
One such player Wane should turn to is Brisbane Broncos center Herbie Farnworth, who was sidelined for several months with a horrific bicep injury.
Born in Lancashire, Farnworth greatly impressed the English coach.
“I will have no qualms about Herbie joining us for the World Cup. I can’t wait to coach him,” Wane told AAP.
“Although his injury is serious, I know Herbie is an absolute professional and takes such good care of himself.
“I met him in Australia during the Magic Round weekend and was really impressed with his maturity. I like how he does all the fundamentals well. He has good technique and he is so strong as the center.
“What I really love is that he had the courage to go to Australia when he was young, to resist and shine in Brisbane.”
Farnworth’s uncle and mentor, former Wigan Warriors scout Brian Foley, also praised the young center for the way he responded to his injury.
“Herbie’s bicep is not completely healed. He’s healed enough, but not enough to play in the NRL competition,” Foley told AAP.
“He thought he was going to get through to the final round game against St George but I spoke to him and it wasn’t worth the risk.
“He’s very pissed off. He wanted to play with it, but Herbie is Herbie.
As Farnworth is poised to take center stage, it leaves Harry Newman, Mark Percival and Jake Connor to fight for each other.
