Warren Gatland names England legend Lawrence Dallaglio as the greatest captain – Ruck

Having coached the Lions, Wales and Ireland, it’s safe to say that Warren Gatland has worked with some of rugby’s best players during his career.

Gatland was talking BBC Rugby Union Weekly podcast and paid tribute to the five best players he has ever coached.

The New Zealander has divided his list into three categories: best pound-for-pound player, best captain, best Lion and most talented player.

#5. Shane Williams (Wales)

“Probably pound for pound, Shane Williams. He had incredible, brilliant offensive attributes,” Gatland said.

“But sometimes Shane could score three tries and leave two. But pound for pound he was amazing when he was at his best.
