ITV Saturday kicks off here with the Group 3 Strensall Stakes on 1m1f. Very hard to get out MIGHTY ULYSSES who is a very good horse when successful for John and Thady Gosden and Frankie Dettori. The fifth St James’s Palace Stakes was back on its way to victory at Newmarket last time out and is gaining weight thanks to older horses. Hard to stop and this trip should be ideal.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

ITV is also at Sandown on Saturday for this Group 3 Atalanta Stakes for fillies and mares over 1m. GREAT LADY is quite helpful and barring a blip has shown a high level of form this season for John and Thady Gosden. Coach has a strong hand here with the undefeated Laurel, but I’ll stick with James Doyle’s mount.

WANT A FREE CHANCE TO WIN £/€25,000?

This is the Melrose Handicap for 3 year olds over 1m60. SOUL PLUG is a different horse since being neutered and winning twice at Chester and Salisbury. Those wins have only come in small batches and he won’t want to start slow like he did last time out, but he’s still good and clearly progressing. Strong Each Way claims Andrew Balding and David Probert.

ITV is also showing the Group 3 Solario stakes for juveniles over 7ft. Often won by a good one. DESERT HEROES seemed a good horse for the Queen at Haydock on her debut and must have great luck for William Haggas and Ciéron Fallon. The Sea the Stars son is bred to improve with age and distance and could well be very good even though he is an open renewal.

Now the City of York Stakes, a group 2 of 7f, which is the first race of Saturday’s Paddy’s Pick 5 competition. I love Sacred but tactically it might suit Godolphin AL SUHAIL which goes for William Buick and Charlie Appleby. My selection has been off the track for a long time but lives up to that rating on their betting slip. He can go forward sometimes and it might not be a bad place to be in this formation. I’ll risk a few pounds each way, he’s ready for the comeback.

Today’s big betting race in the Ebor Handicap over 1m6f – another of the Paddy’s Pick 5 races. Earl of Tyrone was all the rage, but let’s keep the faith with JOHN LEEPER though it was hopeless for me at Goodwood last time. The former Ed Dunlop-trained Derby prospect is slow as an old boat, but he’s been screaming for a decent pace to run on this trip and eventually he’s got the chance. Ironically, it also gets Adam Kirby on board, who was retired in the Derby in favor of Frankie Dettori only for Kirby to go win the race on Adayar. A chance in every way.

STUDY THE FORM IN STYLE AND GET ALL THE RESULTS YOU NEED FIRST

Finally for the week in York a handicap greater than 6f, which is the next race of 5 in Paddy’s £/€25,000 free competition on Saturday. There are only four races GULLIVER was third out of twenty-one at this track in a similar race and now he’s a big prize 2 lbs lighter. He will do for me in any case for Martin Harley and David O’Meara. There was also a silver lining at Goodwood last time out in midfield. Fingers crossed the old boy has another day.

So good luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. Can you hear me Paddy?
