In 2010, an interception try from prop Joe Marler in the final minute of Esher’s clash with Blaydon sealed the victory they needed to clinch promotion to the Championship.
The 31-12 win, coupled with the away loss to Tynedale for nearest rivals London Scottish, ensured Esher could not be caught at the top of National League One, with five games left on the season yet to play.
Half-time substitute Marler completed the scoring when he tucked in a pass from Blaydon on Esher’s 40-yard line and ran clear to land under the posts.
