IMG plans to cut drifting rugby league clubs – Rugby League News

Rugby Football League (RFL) and Super League Europe recently announced a 12-year strategic partnership with IMG, a global sports, events, media and fashion leader owned by Endeavor, to reinvent Rugby League and its competitions in the UK.

The deal follows the RFL and Super League’s recent decision to realign and form a new joint venture.

IMG has assembled a team of experts across its Media business and the Endeavor Network to work with the newly merged entity on the strategic repositioning of the sport to maximize its business potential for long-term growth, build deeper relationships with fans and attract new audiences.

The agency will initially focus on competitive restructuring, content production and innovation, domestic and international media rights distribution, digital transformation fueled by IMG Seven League’s digital sports arm, branding provided by Endeavor’s cultural marketing agency 160over90 and streaming via Endeavor’s OTT platform Endeavor Diffusion.

As part of a second phase of work, IMG will also provide data collection and the development of data-driven products, including sports betting products and streaming rights through its data and technology business. sports IMG ARENA.

And, for The Full Eighty Minutes podcast, some clubs should be drift cut.

“What I hear from IMG is get ready, change is happening and some of the things mentioned are phenomenal,” said The Game Caller.

“You look at what IMG and Endeavor have done with the UFC and look at what they have done and you hear how they will market and rebrand and there will be wholesale changes.

“We have to change to survive in my opinion we have to think outside the box – I think licensing will come back at some point and don’t be surprised if IMG decides to throw money at a Dublin and an Edinburgh.

“They will make it work as IMG is looking beyond a Bradford and a Batley and looking further, but it won’t happen overnight although they have the money.

“Not every club will succeed or overcome these hurdles, but I’m sure when you talk to some owners if they’re not in those two 12s there will be tough moral decisions to make.

“But, IMG will pull us out of the Dark Ages.”
