Jean Prat Prize preview: Modern Games shows ‘all the signs’ for Charlie Appleby as he leads British challenge in Deauville

The British and Irish coaches have won the last three editions of the Prix Jean Prat and with raiders making up almost half of the 11 riders who will be competing in Deauville on Sunday, there is a good chance that the prize will cross the Channel again.

Charlie Appleby won seven-stadia Group One with Pinatubo in 2020 and builds on the winner of the Poule d’Essai des Poulains modern gameswho is going on a trip again after finishing third in the Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly recently.

That form got a huge boost when Vadeni confirmed his French Derby success in the Coral-Eclipse and the Godolphin colt looks set to play a starring role on Sunday afternoon.

“He’s in great shape but obviously we’re back a mile and a quarter at seven furlongs,” said the Moulton Paddocks manager.

“He is very authentic and he has a lot of natural rhythm. I hope it will be a fast pitch, which you can never be sure of in Deauville, but he shows all the signs he was before the (French) Guineas. .”

Andre Fabre is the race’s co-leading coach, having clinched Group One five times. The decorated manager relies on Tribalist this time around, who finished third in the Modern Games in the French 2000 Guineas before falling short by a short header in a Chantilly Group Three more recently.

Also bringing the classic French shape to the table is Texaswho shared the Godolphin pair of Modern Games and Tribalist in the capital in May, while Francis-Henri Graffard saddles the exciting Rozgar which makes the step to the Group One company in search of its fourth consecutive success.

The field is completed by the triple winner Siam Paragon and the filly Accakaba.
