Sergio Perez was penalized after qualifying for the Austrian GP and dropped to 13th on the grid for Saturday’s Sprint race.
Replays showed Perez crossing the white lines at Turn 8 on his fastest Q2 lap, but despite it being noted by the F1 stewards, the Red Bull driver continued the session and finished qualifying with a fourth temporary position.

Finishing in P4, Sergio Perez was unhappy with his performance in Friday’s qualifying, however, he is hopeful for Sunday’s race.
After qualifying, Perez was summoned to the stewards for an “alleged breach of Article 33.3 of the Formula 1 Sporting Regulations – Leaving the track without justifiable reason at 5:39 p.m.” and went on to achieve all of his Q3 lap times plus his last lap of Q2 deleted.
This means he is ready to start the Sprint from 13th place, where his previous fastest Q2 time would put him.
In a statement, the FIA said that while Red Bull has argued that leaving the track is not a case of “gaining a lasting advantage”, it is “leaving the track without justifiable reason”, which is another. section of the rule that is being applied.
