Just a few weeks ago Louis Senior scored a hat-trick for Huddersfield as they beat Wigan to throw his hat into the ring for the Challenge Cup final against the same opposition.
However, the form of twin brother Innes and Jermaine McGillvary ensured he was not given the green light at the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium as the Giants lost to Wigan in the final.
Clearly a very good winger, Watson has always spoken fondly of him but now he’s heading to Hull KR with Watson explaining he has to play and the reserves wouldn’t be beneficial for the winger.
He also noted that he would have liked to keep the winger but ultimately said his need for playing time influenced the decision.
“Ideally, I would have liked him to stay with us,” Watson said, “He gives us this competition on the wing. We’ve talked all season long, but Innes’ performances have been exceptional and Jermaine was exceptional, so Louis had a hard time getting in.
“We are talking about if that was the situation as we moved forward a bit, we would like Louis to come out and play a few games.
“At the moment the reserves level is not the level we need at the moment. It needs to be built up consistently and the reserves have a fair layoff where they don’t have games for a while. time.
“It’s really important for Louis for his mental state and his rugby that he has a few games under his belt.”
He also revealed his brother Innes’ response: ‘We had a little joke earlier because obviously it was Innes on loan at Wakefield last year and Louis was playing with us and basically Innes coming in and playing so well pushed Louis out and he has to go down the highway to Hull KR.
“Innes is good and because he had that experience at Wakefield he is his own man. They probably would like to be together all the time, sometimes that just doesn’t work out and I don’t think that’s a problem for either of them.
