Salt and pepper add flavor to Lancashire T20 win over Essex

Phil Salt and Michael Pepper caused a stir on social media on Friday when the two aptly named cricketers helped each other off in the Vitality Blast quarter-final clash between Lancashire and Essex.

With Essex Hitting first at Old Trafford, Pepper was progressing well when he leapt onto the pitch for a spinning delivery from Tom Hartley looking to add to his 36 tally.

However, the 24-year-old’s swing and miss was gobbled up by Lancashire wicketkeeper Salt, who waived bail to fire the Eagles striker.

Essex posted 161 for five of their innings and, while the chase proved comfortable in the end for Lancashire, Pepper got revenge on Salt with a superb piece of ground.

A powerful sweep to the boundary from the England batter was caught by Pepper, who tossed the ball past team-mate Ben Allison before stepping over the boundary rope as Salt was sent off for 27.

Lightning didn’t let the dismissal deflect them off the track, as they made short work of their opponents, chasing a 162 goal with over four overs remaining.

Lancashire will go for the trophy on finals day in Edgbaston on July 16, facing rivals Yorkshire in the semi-finals.
